A recent study analyzing over 50,000 car accident claims revealed that more than 6% of accidents on UK roads are caused by drivers changing lane, an increase of 48% over just 2 years.Vehicle damage resulting from these road accident claims amounted to over £400 million each year.
Figures from the Department for Transport show that simply failing to check for another vehicle is the most frequently reported contributory factor (38%) to an accident.
In most cases the accidents were caused by drivers changing lane without indicating and colliding with another vehicle. These accidents were caused either by drivers not checking their mirrors properly or by poor visibility through the side and rear of the car they were driving.
Poor all-around visibility from large door pillars can make matters more difficult still.
